Lamp Love

We don't have a lot of table lamps in our house, aside from an old one in our bedroom, and it's just not an item that I ever consciously think about purchasing. Perhaps it's because they're always too expensive, or the fact that we just don't have a lot of space for lamps.

Well, while I was out and about today, I stopped in Pier1 for no particular reason (always a dangerous idea). I almost ended up buying more Christmas clearance decor, until I discovered a selection of 50% off table lamps that I couldn't seem to drag myself away from. I'll be the first to admit it was definitely an impulse purchase, but I ended up leaving with not just one, but two lovely lamps:

Ecru Serena Lamp - $19.98 (originally $40)

This lamp replaced the antique-y looking one we previously had our bedroom end table. A very sophisticated upgrade!

Crackle Luster Lamp - $32.98 (originally $66)
I knew I wanted this one right away when I saw it, but wasn't quite sure where it would go. For now, this beauty is residing on an end table in our living room.

I must say that I'm pretty happy with these purchases! Not too shabby for just over $50 (right?). I have a newfound appreciation for table lamps and how they can transform the look of a room. And I'm glad I decided to put my money toward these, which will be seen everyday, instead of more Christmas stuff!  :)

Besides lamps, are there any other basic home accents that you think have a big effect on a room's appearance?

I love these, Amanda! Great finds!

I always notice small things that create (or deter from) a sense of symmetry or balance in a room, like furniture layout or the placement of natural light.

Love the new lamps!! I'm actually fairly desperate for a couple new table lamps, so based on your story, my Pier 1 gift card and a local Pier 1 that's closing....I think I need to pop over there this weekend!! Hope I can score some deals as good as yours.

Nice lamps! Those are good deals.

To answer your other question, I'm amazed at what an area rug can do to pull a room together. I also am becoming a bigger fan of window treatments. I used to hate curtains, but now I love the lush and layered look they can add to a room. Plus they can make a room seem taller (by drawing the eyes up) or make a window appear bigger. :)

You have good lamp taste! I have a simular lamp the one in your bedroom - ours is in our Living Room. I really really like the lamp you found for your living room what a steal!

Good choices! I've wanted that crackle one for awhile, but have nowhere to put it. I think nothing changes a room faster than colorful pillows, whether on a couch, bed, bench, or chair. I love me some decorative pillows! And curtains, definitely.

The lamps are lovely. I'm really digging the crackle lamp. I think framed art on the walls are great home accents that can really transform a room. Plus, people get to notice your pretty painted walls more. :)

Oh, you bargain shopper, you. Awesome lamps!!! I need some new lamps for our bedroom, perhaps a trip to Pier 1 is in my future?

Awesome! I almost went into a Pier1 today - I guess my budget is happy I didn't.

Way to bargain hunt! We have no table lamps, except one in the bedroom. We have a shortage of tables, actually. We do have floor lamps that are not nearly as sexy as those table lamps!

I am the same way about table lamps. I always like them but fear spending so much money on them. You scored with these! They are both so pretty! I want some for our bedroom. We are currently using my old bedroom ones in the living room and I have nothing to read by in my bedroom now.

Area rugs are my weakness. I love them.
