Coming Soon... New Kitchen Backsplash!

I can't believe the day has finally come. After months (and months) of slowly chipping away at our kitchen renovation the DIY way (tearing out old backsplash and countertops, painting cabinets, custom-building a new breakfast bar, installing a new sink and butcher block counters, and adding floating shelf brackets)... We are finally having someone come to install our backsplash tomorrow. Eventually you come to a point where you realize you just don't have enough hours in the day to do it all yourself, and that's where we're at right now.

In fact it's been such a long process thus far that I don't think I'll actually believe it's happening until I see the backsplash up with my own eyes. We bought these boxes at Menards long ago, and the mosaic tiles inside have just been waiting for their time to shine.

Here are some photos of our kitchen I just took tonight, in anticipation for the "before and after" pictures of course. But I figured I might as well share this quick update now, since I've been slacking with regular blog updates about all the other aforementioned projects.

Apologies for the poor lighting... It didn't get very sunny today, and it was starting to get dark by the time I remembered to take these!

And here's a closer look at one of the brackets for our floating shelves. These are from Shelfology and are supposed to be really heavy duty to support a lot of weight (not that I plan to put super heavy things on them, but the butcher block shelves alone will be pretty substantial).

We'll also be replacing our old ivory outlets with some new ones that coordinate better with the backsplash. I wasn't too impressed with the options when I browsed through all the home improvement stores this weekend, but eventually ended up finding this modern-looking Radiant collection from Legrand. It was a tough choice between their Nickel and Gray options, but Nickel seemed to lean a little too brown. I ended up ordering all the outlets, switches and wall plates in Gray, so fingers crossed those will do the trick!

And now you're all up to speed on what our kitchen looks like as of today... next time you'll hopefully be seeing it complete with the long-awaited backsplash!
