Real vs. Fake

I admit it.

I'm a faker when it comes to flowers in the house. (What did you think I meant?)  But in my defense, I do try to buy the ones that look as realistic as possible -- usually from Hobby Lobby.

I have some in little vases...

The above two "bud vases" are empty reed diffusers!
This little arrangement was on sale at Pier1 for $3.50!

Another use for votive holders

And some in bigger vases...
Yes, I realize the glass beads scream "FAKE!"

In fact, I rarely ever buy fresh blooms for the house, although it would be lovely to have a real bouquet and that wonderful floral fragrance on a daily basis. But in general, I don't splurge on the real deal unless it's for a special occasion. Yet another reason to get some more flowers planted outside our house...

So where do you stand on on the great floral debate? Are you a faker too, or do you "just say no" to faux? Let's hear it!

  1. I don't have any fake flowers yet, but I think it's all in how you own it.I bought some very low maintenance plants that wouldn't die if I forgot about them, but if I found really cute fake flowers, why not? I think using them in a bold and playful way is how you can 'make them work.'

Take your glass beads, for instance. Instead of just using them in the way you'd use real flowers, you turned them into a statement. And it looks really fun!

I've been tempted to make fabric flowers for around the house. I think that would be really cute too!

  2. My mom is a fan of the fake flowers. She usually would pass on the ones to me that she didn't care for. I don't mind them, but don't use them often. I kind of like arranging bouquets of real flowers or taking care of plants.

I really love your small vases! They are so cute!

  3. Whne it comse to flowers I like them real...I try my best not to splurge on flowers - I usally get my from Trader joes for $4.99 and spread them around the house, or I get baby's breath they last for weeks! and still look pretty. I also cut fresh flowers from our rose bushes and 'flower branches' from tress

  4. I'm a faker too, but not quite as much as you :) For someone like me who has a black thumb, faux is the way to go!

  5. I'm not hatin'...I've done a little faking in the past. I love real flowers but I don't hate fake ones. It's all in the presentation and what you like.

Your fakes look great...you are very creative :)

  7. Hi Amanda,

I just found your blog, its lovely... I would have to say I just love fresh flowers over the fake, but I do have a punch of fake pink cherry blossoms in my lounge and I think they look great..almost as good as the real thing..

  8. I don't think there is anything wrong with fake flowers, as long as you remember to dust them! I'm a fan of potted plants but my green thumb needs a little work.

  10. Funnily enough because I am a real gardener, I do have some fake plants in the house ... one large one to fill an empty corner and another all green on an end table. I can't keep indoor plants alive. Otherwise I like cut flowers or potted plants, which last longer, and they are usually in the family room because that is where I spend most of my time.

  11. Uh, fake 'bunches' of flowers aren't really my style, but I do have a couple single stems in statement vases.

  12. I have a few fake flowers around since most of my greenery goes on the screened porch for the summer and I like some "plants" in the house.
